Amid growing geopolitical tensions and the race for technological advancement, senior officials in Türkiye have reiterated their dedication to bolstering maritime security and enhancing defense capabilities. This commitment was emphasized at the conclusion of Teknofest Blue Homeland, an event underscoring the nation’s focus on safeguarding its maritime interests, collectively known as the “Blue Homeland.” Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz highlighted the increased significance of these efforts due to escalating security challenges and the competition for critical technologies, energy resources, and vital trade routes.
Held at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard, the event presented an impressive array of 37 vessels and four aircraft. Notable inclusions were the TCG Anadolu, TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Derya, and the Murat Reis submarine, alongside innovative domestically developed unmanned maritime systems. These displays underline Türkiye’s progress in maritime defense and its ambition to become a formidable player in the global defense industry.
Yılmaz elaborated on Türkiye’s strategic expansion in integrating both manned and unmanned platforms, leveraging advancements in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, advanced sensors, and secure communications. He pointed out that the localization rate of Türkiye’s defense industry has surpassed 80%, reflecting the country’s growing independence and capability within this sector. Türkiye’s aspirations extend to solidifying its status as a top defense exporter worldwide.
Teknofest Blue Homeland also served as a platform for nurturing innovation among young engineers and innovators, featuring competitions dedicated to unmanned underwater systems, maritime vehicles, and underwater technologies. These contests aim to inspire the next generation to contribute to Türkiye’s defense and technological sectors, fostering a culture of innovation critical for maintaining and advancing the nation’s strategic interests.
