In the wake of the NATO Summit held on July 7–8, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the enhanced international standing of Türkiye, crediting the successful hosting of the event in Ankara. The summit, which saw participation from prominent global leaders including US President Donald Trump, was hailed by Erdoğan as a historic achievement. He pointed out that this gathering underscored Türkiye’s expanding influence in global diplomatic circles.
Erdoğan highlighted that during the summit, NATO leaders concurred on the necessity of eliminating obstacles hindering cooperation within the defense industry. In a significant development, he announced that NATO plans to establish a Counter-Unmanned Systems Centre of Excellence in Konya, a city in Türkiye. This move is expected to further bolster Türkiye’s strategic importance within the alliance.
Another key aspect of the summit was the Defence Industry Forum, which attracted close to 1,000 participants. Erdoğan expressed optimism that the forum would not only boost Türkiye’s tourism sector but also enhance its reputation on the international stage. He underscored the event’s role in showcasing Türkiye’s capabilities and potential as a pivotal player in defense and diplomacy.
The president also reiterated his commitment to deepening ties with the United States, particularly in terms of increasing bilateral trade to a target of $100 billion. This ambition reflects Türkiye’s broader goals of fostering economic growth and reinforcing its position as a regional power committed to peace and stability. Additionally, Erdoğan extended his condolences to Qatar following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, demonstrating Türkiye’s ongoing engagement with key partners in the region.
