These border flare-ups underscore the urgent need for Ukraine to strengthen its defenses and offensive reach. Against this backdrop, Zelensky confirmed he is moving forward with plans to acquire long-range weapons from the United States. An agreement in principle was reached with President Donald Trump, and a Ukrainian team is now preparing for technical talks in Washington to finalize the deal.
The planned weapons purchases are substantial, intended to augment an existing $90 billion military aid agreement. The goal is to provide Ukrainian forces with the ability to strike high-value targets far behind the front lines, disrupting enemy logistics and command structures more effectively.
In addition to seeking American weapons, Ukraine is also poised to become a supplier. Zelensky noted that the US has shown interest in purchasing Ukrainian drones, and talks on this are set to begin.
