In a recent telephone conversation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan focused on advancing the normalization process between their nations and assessing recent regional developments. Prime Minister Pashinyan also took the opportunity to convey Eid al-Adha greetings to President Erdoğan during the exchange.

The dialogue underscored the progress being made in improving bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation. President Erdoğan highlighted Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to normalization, emphasizing that practical measures are being implemented to facilitate direct trade and bolster economic ties. He reiterated Türkiye’s dedication to fostering peace, stability, and enduring security throughout the region.

This conversation marks the latest instance of high-level interaction between Ankara and Yerevan, as both countries seek a gradual thaw in relations that have long been strained. Efforts to normalize relations aim to foster dialogue, build trust, and explore opportunities for collaboration in mutually beneficial sectors.

The current drive for normalization began in late 2021 with the appointment of special envoys by both Türkiye and Armenia to spearhead negotiations. Concrete steps to mend ties have been taken, such as the resumption of commercial flights in 2022, signaling a commitment to improving relations.

These diplomatic developments are part of a larger initiative to enhance stability and promote economic interconnectivity in the South Caucasus. While hurdles remain, both governments continue to endorse dialogue and confidence-building measures as they strive for a more positive bilateral relationship.
