Ukraine’s Diplomatic Offensive: Zelensky Cites Gaza Deal in Push for Peace

President Volodymyr Zelensky has launched a new diplomatic offensive, using the US-brokered Gaza peace plan as his primary talking point to push for an end to the war with Russia. His message on Tuesday was clear: what was achieved in the Middle East is possible in Eastern Europe with American leadership.
Zelensky directly pointed to President Donald Trump’s “success” as a proof of concept. “If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well,” he stated, echoing a conversation he had with the US President. This frames the Ukraine conflict as the next logical test for US-led diplomacy.
To bolster this offensive, Zelensky is aligning with key European partners. He spoke for over an hour with his Finnish counterpart, Alex Stubb, to “coordinate their positions,” signaling a unified approach in their engagement with Washington and other G7 nations.
This diplomatic push is contrasted sharply with the ongoing violence ravaging his country. Zelensky gave a detailed account of recent Russian strikes, including the bombing of a Kharkiv hospital that wounded 57 civilians and attacks on energy facilities in other regions, which he labeled as Russia’s “aerial terror.”
The conclusion of his argument is that peace must be backed by power. Zelensky’s repeated and specific calls for Patriot, NASAMS, and other air defense systems are not just about defense but about creating leverage. He maintains that Russia will only be deprived of its means for terror and war through a combination of international pressure and Ukrainian strength.
