In a bid to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, Türkiye’s National Security Council, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has called for the United States, Israel, and Iran to cease hostilities and return to the negotiating table. The council expressed concerns that the ongoing conflict could exacerbate regional instability and have broader global repercussions, emphasizing the necessity for diplomatic solutions to mitigate tensions.
During the council’s meeting, a comprehensive review of various geopolitical situations was conducted, including developments in Syria, Iraq, Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The council reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity and advocated for enhanced stability in Iraq.
On the matters of Gaza and Lebanon, the council urged international intervention to halt ongoing violence and bolster regional stability. It also recommended exercising restraint and pursuing a cease-fire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, citing concerns over the impact of attacks on civilian infrastructure.
Addressing the situation in Yemen, the council highlighted the escalating tensions which pose increased security risks across the region. It underscored the importance of restoring peace and stability to prevent further deterioration of the security landscape.
