A fitness expert with 35 years of experience in movement arts shared a core exercise they credit with maintaining their vitality. This “life-changing” move, rooted in Tai Chi, is recommended for people 40 and older.
The exercise, called the “Qi Machine,” is based on using the body’s “action potential.” It starts with feet shoulder-width apart and a “double bounce” in the knees.
The coach explains this is not a squat. A squat requires muscular effort to press up. This bounce is a “drop” where the body’s elastic tissues—fascia and ligaments—catch the weight and spring it back up.
This elastic recoil mechanism is described as “nearly effortless” and highly efficient. It allows for sustained movement without the fatigue or metabolic waste associated with muscle-dominant exercises.
When the arms are integrated with the bounce, it becomes a complete, full-body exercise. It creates a “beautiful wave through the spine” and circulates blood, enhances natural breathing, and balances the body’s energy.
This promotes a state of overall harmony. It’s a testament to the idea that simple, consistent, and intelligent movement is a key to maintaining a youthful and resilient body.
